perish.

“They had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat.
He enjoined them, “Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
They concluded among themselves that it was because they had no bread.
When he became aware of this he said to them, “Why do you conclude that it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Are your hearts hardened?
Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear? And do you not remember,
when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many wicker baskets full of fragments you picked up?” They answered him, “Twelve.”
“When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many full baskets of fragments did you pick up?” They answered [him], “Seven.”
He said to them, “Do you still not understand?” Mark 8:14-21

We lost power and I got a little worried.. and when the heat wouldn’t return the temperatures dropped 🥶
family, friends, and neighbors freezing cold.. eventually power started to roll so our houses could warm briefly, and some people could cook.. people worked around the clock to restore power and aid their community.. when the water turned off I started to panic, and when the shelves were empty I couldn’t see a solution but then I remembered Mark 8.. and I looked outside.. and yes these coolers are full of snow for boiling, for this coffee, for flushing, for teeth brushing.
Jesus never abandons us, not then, not now, not ever. Not in the small things, the big things, or the in between things. The power returned before the water shut off. Friends appear with hot meals, strangers offer water, neighbors help with destruction. He creates special moments within our homes and community through the challenges. He brings our hearts close to one another, friend or stranger we are all neighbors. He shows us humanity, gently teaches us humility, and pours out His love. Lord, help us to understand.

Jesus, I trust in you.
Lord, I trust in you.
Holy Spirit, I trust in you.
You will not let us perish.
You will always provide.
Jesus, we trust in you.
For who or what shall we fear?
You are the Lord our God.
Lord, help us to understand.
