The Power of “Thank You”

Do you remember what it feels like to receive a hand written note?

There is something truly special about reading the words written by another. There is an appreciation of time spent, intention, and the simplicity of the tangible memory. You just can’t get the same feeling with a text or an email.

{My great-grandmother used to write me letters of appreciation. She loved to tell me all about her days, her hobbies, and her puppies! I was always so excited to receive the envelopes from the mail, addressed with my name. I still have all the letters she wrote and I’m able to go back and remember her sweet nature and loving words.}

As I’ve grown older I’ve realized just how amazing the people around me are. Small favors, support, opportunities, prayer, simple kindness… people are so good and so giving. When our people do something worthy of thanksgiving we want to return the favor in some way. A thank you goes a long way… Acknowledging that you appreciate the time, talents, and treasures of your loved ones shows them that you care and encourages them to spread the same love to those around them.

Thank you cards are the perfect way to do just that! Cards are an expensive, easy to write, and can be written for just about anything!…

inexpensive… (tip: I love to get packages of cards in the dollar section at Target! Firstly, they are only a dollar…and secondly, they are always so pretty!)

easy to write…

  • Start by saying why you are writing… “I just wanted to say thank you so much for…”

  • Then, let them know how much you appreciate them and why… “I’m truly blessed to have you in my life, you are always…”

  • Let them know you are there for them too! “If you ever need anything at all just let me know!”

can be written for just about anything!… you can think people for:

  • time spent

  • money spent (going out to coffee, lunch, a scantron.. anything!)

  • favors (bringing you something you forgot, surprising you with tea, running errands, etc.)

  • interviews (always send a follow up thank you!)

  • opportunities (internships, volunteer work, shadowing, jobs, etc.)

  • just being an awesome friend! (I sometimes like to add $5 Starbucks cards to these just for a little extra love)

Thank you cards don’t have to be complicated or even long! Just show your people you appreciate them, you love them, and you are there to return the favor!
